Holiday Drink - Coquito

The weekend is upon us and I've already made our favorite Puerto Rican holiday drink - Coquito, ready to serve. Every other year, we try to spend the holidays with our family in Puerto Rico and  enjoy the fun festivities our beautiful culture has and not to mention, the delicious drinks such as this one, #coquito. However, this year we decided to spend the holidays at home so we can start our own holiday family traditions but of course, include our culture customs in the mix, ya know what I mean?

We are looking forward to eating pernil (pork shoulder), arroz con gandules (yellow rice with pigeon peas), and guineitos en escabeche (green banana salad) on Christmas Eve, opening presents on Christmas day, wearing our matching pajamas, while listening to Pandora station, "Navidad en Puerto Rico Radio" and mommy and daddy having a little coquito because that's how we do it. So, if you're looking for a quick delicious drink to try this holiday season, this one is just for you! See recipe below.

Coquito - The Puerto Rican Egg Nog

Coquito is a coconut-alcoholic based drink Puerto Rican's love to drink during the holidays. It's an easy drink to make in 5-10 minutes. The following ingredients could serve 4-6. *for a non-alcohol drink, don't add rum.*

2 cans of coconut cream
1 can of sweetened condensed milk
1 can of evaporated milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1-2 cups of Bacardi rum
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
1 tablespoon ground nutmeg

Add all ingredients into blender and blend until well mixed, 2-3 min. Pour into your favorite bottle and refrigerate until cold. Before serving into a glass, make sure to shake well, pour drink and then sprinkle a pinch of cinnamon for taste. Voila! You have yourself a delicious, easy drink to enjoy with family and friends.
